A week full of variety

The beginning of July was also very busy with lots of different events. On the 4th I was on the quay for the commissioning of the Blue Mermaid, a replica of the original barge lost in WW2. Later that day I went to Wentworth School Open Evening which was celebrating its 50th anniversary.  It’s a great school and I was pleased to be given a tour by Head Teacher Mrs Dack.

The next day I went to the fund-raising Twinning Summer Barbecue at the home of Linda and Barry Anthony, great hosts, who provided a wonderful spread in the pleasant surroundings of their garden.

On the Sunday Terry and I were guests of the Town Mayor of Burnham-on-Crouch, Wendy Stamp, at her Civic Lunch. The food and entertainment were excellent.

The next day I was invited by Marks and Spencer to present a theatrically large cheque for £850 to MIND on behalf of the staff who consistently raise funds for charities of their choice. I returned to Wentworth School in the afternoon to see an absolutely charming performance of Mary Poppins which held the audience spellbound. The acting and singing talents of the students is truly amazing!

On the early afternoon of 9th, along with other councillors, I attended a `Ground-breaking’ event for the new Travelodge at the Blackwater Retail Park. This included being raised by a cherry picker several feet in the air with the Chairman of Maldon District Council Bob Boyce brandishing a spade!
