Maldon in Bloom

The Maldon in Bloom team are working hard to make Maldon a bright and beautiful town for residents and visitors to enjoy and feel proud of.  The annual gardening competition is now entering its 18th year and with the continued support received from residents and local businesses it is going from strength to strength!

If you have a front garden to be proud of, have vibrant planters or bountiful hanging baskets then Maldon in Bloom has just the categories for you!  Not to exclude the vegetable gardeners amongst us we also have best allotment and best family allotment categories too.

Other categories are available to schools, nurseries or youth groups, communal gardens, residential streets (minimum of 3 houses), pubs, hotels, retail outlets or industrial areas. Special awards are given to those entries reflecting this year’s theme ‘International Sport’.

The competition is FREE to enter and all entries will receive a one-off discount of 10% at the Emporium in the High Street.  The Closing date for all entries is WEDNESDAY 3rd JUNE so look out for the judges who will be touring around the town during the week beginning Monday 8th June 2015.

To thank all the entrants in this year’s Maldon in Bloom competition the Town Council is hosting a presentation evening at the Town Hall on Wednesday 8th July at 6pm – all entrants are welcome!

The Maldon in Bloom team have been working hard over the past few months, in preparation for this year’s competition in June, of which the theme is the River Blackwater. As the competition enters its 19th year, we are hoping it will be the best yet, with even more fabulous gardens on display!

The team holds monthly meetings, visits local schools, works with community groups, and carries out work parties; tree planting, bulb planting and most recently a litter pick along the Chelmer and Blackwater Canal. We are always looking for ways to improve the competition and to make it as inclusive as possible to the whole community, so this year we have created 2 new categories; best residential home and best florally decorated shop window. The aim of the competition is to promote pride in the local environment and to celebrate the magnificent green spaces in our town.

Immediately after Maldon in Bloom week finishes in June, we start preparations for the Anglia in Bloom judges in July. During the visit, the judges will get to see a number of the amazing community projects and gardens that the town has to offer. In 2015 Maldon was awarded GOLD in the Anglia in Bloom competition and was chosen as the most improved entry across the entire Anglian region. After many years of trying, this is recognition for the hard work and dedication put in by lots of people, to make Maldon the lovely place that it is for fellow residents and visitors to enjoy.
